SANTA ANA (January 28, 2015) – Pedestrian Pearleen Hopkins was struck by a drunk driver Wednesday evening, leaving her with fatal injuries.
Hopkins was in the process of crossing the 1100 block of W. MacArthur Boulevard when she was struck by a car minutes after 10:00 p.m. She did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Hopkins was a resident of Santa Ana, she had recently celebrated her 59th birthday on New Year’s Eve. She was an active member of her community who worked as a caregiver and volunteered at her church.
The car that struck Hopkins was a westbound 2002 red Nissan Xterra. Police arrested the driver of the Xterra who has been identified as Dallas Frank Reichstein III, a 45 year old Santa Ana resident. Reichstein was arrested on felony hit and run. He has a history of prior arrests including a prior DUI and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was serving probation at the time of the accident. According to witnesses, Reichstein was speeding down MacArthur Boulevard, police state he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
