SAN BERNARDINO (July 11, 2014) – Teenage passenger Samantha Taraby was involved in a car accident that took her life on Friday evening.
Taraby was the front passenger in a 1996 Acura when it was struck by a 2002 Kia at the intersection of Rialto Avenue and North Arrowhead Avenue minutes after 9 o’clock in the evening. The 13 year old died at the scene from the impact, her sisters, Tiffany and Amber, who were also in the car were taken to a Loma Linda University Hospital with broken bones. The sisters were on their way home at the time, returning from the grocery store.
The driver and passenger of the Kia fled the scene but police were able to capture them. The driver was identified as 23 year old Martin Ahmad Mosby and the passenger was identified as 24 year old David Brass. Both were arrested, Mosby was cited for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. They were being held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
A candlelight vigil was held for Samantha on Sunday night at the scene of the accident in her honor. Samantha was going to be an 8th grader at Cope Middle School in Redlands this fall.
