HESPERIA (March 6, 2014) – Taylor Chriswell was fatally struck by a car on her way to school Thursday morning. The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sycamore Street and Peach Avenue. According to early reports, Chriswell was with a group of students waiting for the bus.
She was struck by a 2002 silver Chevrolet Impala which was northbound on Peach Avenue. The driver was a female who claimed not to see the child. The four way intersection has a two way stop sign on Sycamore Street.
Taylor Chriswell was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center where she later died of her injuries. She was 7 years old, a second grader at Juniper Elementary School.
While drugs , alcohol or speed did not play a role in this terrible accident, an investigation is ongoing. If the driver was found to be distracted while driving she can be held liable for the wrongful death of Taylor Chriswell. If Chriswell was in the process of crossing, as a pedestrian she had the right of way. Crossing at an intersection, with or without marked crosswalks, is legal.
