SANTA ANA (January 20, 2015) – Pedestrian Ricardo Rivas was struck fatally by a truck on Tuesday morning.
Rivas was in the process of crossing in a residential area of Edinger Avenue near Maple Street when a flatbed truck struck him. He was rushed to Western Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Rivas, a resident of Santa Ana, was 60 years old.
According to early reports, Rivas was either on or near the crosswalk. Cars must give right of way to pedestrians especially when they are in the process of crossing the street. Pedestrian’s have the right to cross a street safely at marked or unmarked crosswalks. The driver of the truck remained at the scene in order to answer questions. An investigation will determine liability and cause of the accident. The family of Ricardo Rivas may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the truck that killed their loved one.
