FULLERTON (July 5, 2014) – Teen bicyclist Rafael Correa Jr. died on Saturday when he collided with a car while riding his bicycle off a trail.

Correa was coming off a bike trail at Morelia Avenue and Bastanchury Road when he struck an eastbound car on Bastanchury Road around 12:00 p.m.  He was rushed to UCI Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.  The Anaheim resident was 19 years old.

According to previous reports, this is not the first fatality of a bicyclist who was exiting the bike trail and struck a car at the intersection.  An investigation is underway regarding what exactly happened and witnesses should contact the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-6800.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Rafael Correa Jr. in his untimely death.

  1. My heart goes out to his family & loved ones. We did not witness the incident but we did stop & my husband jumped out to hold his hand & console his brother. I am truely sorry for the family's loss. Prayers for the young man who only begun to live, 19 is too young!

  2. That intersection is a pretty steep downhill dirt road used for mountain biking that intersects with a busy 50 mph zone on bastanchury. You can get going pretty fast down that hill. If your not familiar with the trail or your breaks don't stop you an accident between bike and car can and does happen. Maybe a flashing red light with sign for the bikers to see as they approach the intersection.
