George Derkrikorian, 23, has been pronounced dead at the scene of a drunk diving accident on Brea Canyon Road in Los Angeles County.
Sheng-Ting Shih, 32, of Walnut has been arrested for DUI, after the accident, where his late model BMW vehicle rear-ended Derkrikorian Ford on the Pomona Freeway on Sunday morning. Shih was arrested at the scene and booked into the county jail and remained behind bars in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Derkrikorian was driving in the middle lane about 15 mph in a Ford; he was driving behind a Chevrolet which was slowed for traffic. Certain sections of the freeway were closed for construction at the time.
Derkrikorian was a graduate of Mesrobian High School.
Police say Shih was speeding and failed to aplly his brakes in time, striking the Ford which Derkrikorian was driving. The impact was so severe that Derkrikorian’s Ford was pushed into two other cars ahead.
Shih’s passenger, Nancy Yinan Lang, was taken to San Dimas Community Hospital to be treated.
