Fontana (Fatal Accident) – Gloria Diaz died on Friday night when a car in which she was traveling was rear-ended by another car.
The accident happened at 10:42 p.m. Diaz was in the passenger seat of a 2006 Ford Escort head eastbound on Interstate 10 at Cherry Avenue. The Ford Escort came to a sudden stop due to backed up traffic from an earlier accident involving Michael Hampton, however, the car behind the Escort didn’t stop quickly enough, and it struck the Escort in a violent rear-end impact. Diaz was rushed to Fontana’s Kaiser Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Gloria Diaz, a Long Beach resident was 66 years old.
The car which rear ended the Escort was a 1995 Chevy Silverado. Its driver and passenger immediately fled on foot. Witnesses should contact the California Highway Patrol. Fleeing the scene of an accident is illegal and considered a hit and run. In the cases of a serious or fatal injury such as this, the act of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid can be charged as a felony. Hopefully police will track down the owner and the driver of the car that rear-ended Gloria Diaz.
