Anthony Devaney, a resident of Lake Elsinore, CA  has died after being struck by an SUV on Lake Street.  He was 19 years old.

Devaney was hit at 10:10 p.m. about a half mile west of the 15 Freeway.

Lake Elsinore Police state that Devaney was walking north, across the eastbound lanes of Lake Street, wearing dark clothing and ear buds when he was struck.  While he was wearing dark clothing, California law gives pedestrians right of way.  Dark clothing does not excuse the driver’s actions.

Furthermore, there are reports of the street area where the accident occurred as not having enough street lights.

Drivers must be aware for pedestrians at all times.  The driver’s identity has not been released.

Devaney was a student at Mt. San Jacinto College.
