Pedestrian Robert Gonzales Struck by Car While Crossing Street in Whittier

WHITTIER (August 8, 2013) – Pedestrian Robert Gonzales Jr. was killed by a car on Thursday as he was attempting to cross the street.  The accident happened at 8:44 p.m. on Washington Boulevard between Sorenson Avenue and Santa Fe Springs Road.  Gonzales Jr. was in the process of crossing Washington Boulevard when he was fatally struck by a passing motorist.  Gonzales Jr. of Whittier died from the blunt force trauma.  He was 59 years old.

Drivers share the road with pedestrians and should yield to them whenever possible.  Pedestrians have the right of way in marked and even unmarked crosswalks and should proceed with caution before attempting to cross the street.  Smaller profile of pedestrians makes them harder to spot for drivers however all motorists should make an effort to slow down when they see a pedestrian crossing.
