Garden Grove – Pedestrian Richard Jeffrey was struck and killed by a car in Garden Grove on Tuesday night.
Jeffrey was crossing Chapman Avenue when he was struck by a black SAAB 900S. The accident happened around 6:40 p.m. just west of Euclid Street in a mostly residential area of Chapman Avenue. It appears that Jeffrey was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident. He fell while crossing the street and was struck by the westbound SAAB. Jeffrey was rushed to UCI Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. He was 55 years old.
The 56 year old male driver of the black SAAB was cooperating with police. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a part in this accident. While all drivers should always yield to pedestrians, it is important for pedestrians to stay in marked crosswalks.
