LOS ANGELES (July 20, 2013) – Markeis Vonreece Parish was killed on Saturday as he was attempting to cross the street with friends. Vonreece was in the process of crossing Crenshaw Boulevard near 78th Street in Hyde Park when he was struck by a newer model silver Mercedes around 6:15 p.m. Vonreece was unable to survive the blunt force trauma and died at a hospital later, he was only 18 years old.
The driver of the silver Mercedes fled the scene of the accident. Police later recovered the abandoned car two miles away on Imperial Highway and Spinning Avenue but are still looking for the driver. Any witnesses or person who knows the driver should contact the investigating agency.
Pedestrians have the right of way whether or not they are in marked crosswalk as long as they cross with caution. A driver who strikes a pedestrian should remain at the scene, it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident especially where someone has been injured and is considered a hit and run. Driver who flee the scene are typically under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Hopefully this driver will turn himself or herself to authorities.
Friends and family gathered together to mourn the loss of their beloved son and friend. Vonreece was an aspiring athlete with a bright future ahead of him. He was about to enter his senior year at Inglewood High School.
