SANTA ANA (March 13, 2014) – Pedestrian Maria Vancinijavier was struck by a car Thursday evening leaving her with fatal injuries. The accident happened at 8:12 p.m. at 1600 W. 1st Street., a commercial area of Santa Ana. Vancinijavier was struck by a car as she was either walking or crossing the street, details are still not available. She was rushed to UCI Medical Center where she later died of her injuries.
Vancinijavier was just weeks away from celebrating her 52nd birthday.
Further investigation will reveal what happened. The driver who struck her has not been identified. An investigation will reveal who was at fault. If the driver is found to be at fault for Vancinijavier’s wrongful death, that driver can be held responsible for her wrongful death. If she was crossing the street, as a pedestrian, she has the right of way to cross in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

Update: The car that struck Vancinijavier was a 2001 Volvo. The male driver remained at the scene to be questioned by Santa Ana Police. It appears that alcohol did not play a role in this accident.
