Anaheim, California – Pedestrian Kym Murphy was struck and killed by a passing car on Saturday afternoon.  Murphy was crossing at the 800 block of Euclid Street between Chateau Place and Crone Avenue when she was struck.  She was a pedestrian walking westbound at the time when she was struck by a silver van.

The driver of the silver van which struck Murphy stayed at the scene to cooperate with investigators.  It is not yet known whether alcohol played a factor in the collision.  Murphy was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.  She was 54 years old.

Pedestrians always have right of way, even if someone may not be in a marked crosswalk they could be in an unmarked crosswalk.  Pursuant to California law, drivers must yield to pedestrians, whether the pedestrian is in a crosswalk, or even jaywalking.
