HUNTINGTON BEACH (September 12, 2014) – Pedestrian bystander, Robert Borkland, was killed on Friday as a result of a two car crash that happened near him around noon time on friday.
Two cars collided with one another at 9812 Hamilton Avenue in front of the Resurrection Lutheran Church located between Brookhurst Street and Bushard Street. The accident sent one car over the sidewalk which struck multiple cars and two pedestrians. Borkland, a local transient, was in a nearby bush with another male when both were struck as a result of the crash. Paramedics pronounced Borkland dead at the scene from the impact. He was 44 years old, a former resident of Corona. The second pedestrian bystander injured who was with Borkland at the time, was rushed to UCI Medical Center, identified as a 52 year old male from Huntington Beach.
The driver of the Honda Pilot which landed on the sidewalk was described as a 41 year old Huntington Beach woman. The woman and an 8 year old girl and 4 year old boy were transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second car described as a GMC Yukon was a 78 year old Huntington Beach woman who was taken to UCI Medical Center. She also had non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation as investigators try to determine what happened and who is liable. The family of Robert Borkland could have a wrongful death claim against at least one or both of the drivers for his untimely and sudden death.
