The accident happened just minutes before 7:00 p.m. on La Palma Avenue near the busy area of downtown Buena Park.  Clayton was rushed to UCI Medical Center in the city of Orange where she later died of her injuries.  The Anaheim resident was 45 years old.

Witnesses should contact the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 562-3901.  The identity of the driver of the SUV has not been released, hopefully the driver remained at the scene to cooperate with police as per California law.  An investigation is underway as to how the accident occurred as police try to determine who was at fault.  Pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks have the right of way.  If the driver is found to be liable, the family of Angela Clayton will be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver and their insurance for the loss of their loved one.

UPDATE:  The driver who struck Clayton has been identified as 32 year old Orange resident, Paul Pike.  He was arrested on the scene for gross manslaughter and driving under the influence.  Witnesses said he also hit several other cars.
