Indio – Daniel Otto of Columbus, Ohio was involved in a car accident that took his life Friday morning.
The accident happened just after 8 a.m. on Friday in Riverside County’s, Desert Center near Indio. Otto was in the passenger seat of a 2006 Honda sedan when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over. According to some reports, the driver had a medical condition which resulted in a loss of consciousnesses however the details of the accident are still under investigation. They were traveling eastbound on Interstate 10, a mile east of Red Cloud Road. Otto was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and other passengers were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The driver was identified as Daniel Case, 83. The other passengers included Phyllis Case, 83, and a 9 year old child.
Daniel Otto was only 38 years old. Otto was a well respected detective in Ohio’s Delaware County Sherriff’s office. Otto was on vacation in California visiting family at the time of the accident.
