YUCCA VALLEY (March 20, 2014) – A motorcycle accident claimed the life of its rider, David Michael Hayes, on Thursday night.
Hayes was riding his Harley on the westbound side of Twentynine Palms Highway when he was rear-ended by a Dodge Charger, near Wamego Trail. The accident occurred at a quarter past 10:00 p.m. Hayes died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Charger went on to lose control of the vehicle and struck a nearby light pole. He was identified as 22 year old Yucca Valley resident, Christopher Hannon.
Hayes, a 59 year old Yucca Valley resident. Among some of his accomplishments, he was a well liked and highly respected drug and alcohol counselor at Panorama Recovery Ranch in Joshua Tree. He is survived by a son.
A full investigation is underway by the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station Major Accident Investigation Division and witnesses should contact them at (760) 366-4175. If indeed they find Christopher Hannon liable for the accident, David Hayes’ son will have the right to file a wrongful death claim against Hannon and his insurance. According to California law, a family member(s) can file a wrongful death claim when someone else’s negligent action caused the wrongful death of a loved one.
