HEMET (August 11, 2013) – Freddie Williams Jr. died in the early hours of Monday after being struck by a car while crossing the street. The accident took place on the westbound side of Florida Avenue east of San Jacinto Street just minutes before midnight. Freddie Williams Jr. was in a motorized wheelchair at the time, he was attempting to cross the street. An SUV struck him, ejecting him from the wheelchair and leaving him with fatal injuries from serious wounds. The San Jacinto resident died at the scene, he was 75 years old. Another man who was with Williams Jr. was also struck and taken to a nearby hospital.
The identity of the driver has not been released. An investigation is ongoing and witnesses should contact the Hemet Police Department at (951) 765-2400.
Drivers should give right of way to pedestrians especially wheelchair bound pedestrians who might be moving slower. It is best for all pedestrians to use caution while crossing the street at all times. Drivers do not always see pedestrians or people in wheelchairs.

According to witnesses the SUV was not traveling fast, however, it did not see Freddie Williams.
