MORENO VALLEY (June 9, 2014) – A three car crash in Moreno Valley in the early hours of Monday claimed the life of driver Erika Cuevas.
Cuevas was involved in a chain reaction crash that had occurred before she arrived at the scene. Minutes earlier, a car driven by 23 year old Colton resident, Mariah K. Guzman, was eastbound on Highway 60 while driving a Chevrolet pick-up. For unknown reasons, the car lost control and struck a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV causing both vehicles to lose control and disable. Cuevas, who was also eastbound in a 2014 Kia Forte, struck Guzman’s disabled pick-up one mile east of Moreno Beach Drive. Cuevas was rushed to nearby Desert Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries at 2:30 a.m. The San Jacinto resident was 31 years old.
Authorities later arrested Guzman for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. She will face manslaughter charges for causing the death of Erika Cuevas.
The driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe was identified as 52 year old Hemet resident, Colleen Flynn. She was treated at a local hospital and released.
According to friends Cuevas was returning home from work at the time of the accident and leaves behind a little boy. Cuevas was well liked by many at her job at the local Food 4 Less. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Erika Cuevas for the loss of their loved one. They will have the right to sue the driver, Mariah K. Guzman, for the wrongful death of Erika Cuevas.
