IRVINE (July 24, 2013) – Irvine Police say a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a Lexus on Wednesday morning. The collision between the motorcycle and the car occurred near the intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Alton Parkway around 11:10 a.m.
The motorcyclist , 56-year-old motorcyclist David Richmond of Lake Forest and the unidentified driver of a Lexus made contact but it is not clear which vehicle had right of way or which vehicle is at fault. David Richmond died at the scene of the collision from his injuries. Irvine Police are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident. Alton Parkway and Irvine Boulevard is a high traffic intersection with wide lanes and long sweeping left turns.
Car versus motorcycle collisions are too common. It is usually as a result of an inattentive driver who is not looking out for motorcycles or has missed seeing the motorcycle due to its lower profile.
