VENTURA COUNTY (April 6, 2014) – Christopher Prewitt was struck fatally by a car on Sunday morning while jogging in Ventura County.
Prewett was jogging southbound on Victoria Avenue when the car struck him just south of Olivas Park Drive at 6:5o a.m. He was declared dead at the scene from the impact.
The driver who struck Prewitt was identified as 23 year old Shante Chappell of Oxnard. She was cited and arrested at the scene for involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. According to reports, she was headed south on Victoria Avenue when she made an unsafe lane change, striking Prewitt. She has a history of traffic violations.

A memorial is being held tonight at Buena High School to remember Christopher Prewitt at 7:00 p.m. Prewitt was a well liked and much loved educator with the Ventura County Unified School District. For the last three years, he served as the assistant principal of DeAnza Academy of Technology and Arts. He has also held teaching positions at Technology High School and Buena High School.
Prewitt is survived by his wife and child. According to attorney Edmond El Dabe, they have the right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver and her insurance as they have suffered a loss of love, life and companionship.
