Three pedestrians, 56 year old Carmen Mendoza, her 21 year old daughter Sheyla Mendoza and Mendoza’s 21 year old niece, Stephanie Henriquez were struck and killed by a car driven by Anthony Lewis Sanchez.  The accident happened Saturday night at about 11:00 p.m. on Western Avenue just south of Cabot Drive.  Sheyla Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene while Carmen Mendoza and Stephanie Henriquez died of their injuries later at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Sanchez, 40, was charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.  The Buena Park resident who was driving a red, four door Honda Civic also had a female passenger in the car at the time of the accident.  Both went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Such a tragic story.  Our hearts go out to the Mendoza and Henriquez families.
