BUENA PARK (April 25, 2014) – Marisa Malin died on Friday when an out of control vehicle slammed into the Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour where she was a patron.
The Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour is located at 8640 Beach Boulevard. Malin and others were in front of the building and seated on a bench when a car slammed into them around 6:00 p.m. According to witnesses, Malin was pinned by the car to the building and suffered life threatening injuries. She was rushed to UCI Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. The 73 year old was a resident of Cerritos. A faithful person, Malin was involved with her church in Artesia, the Holy Family Catholic Church.
The driver was identified as an 81 year old male, he was driving a mid-size, gray SUV Suzuki XL.7. Some witnesses stated that he was leaving the restaurant and speculate that he stepped on the gas instead of the break. He was not injured and remained at the scene for questioning. An investigation is ongoing into what exactly happened and witnesses should contact the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 562-3901.
Other patrons were rushed to local hospitals with some injuries including two pre-teen girls, an 11 year old boy and two adults.
