Yucaipa – A tour bus on its way to Big Bear was involved in an accident with two other vehicles Sunday evening, killing at least 8 of its passengers.
The accident happened at 6:40 p.m. on California Interstate 38 in Yucaipa, northeast of Bryant Street. The bus was chartered through Scapadas Magicas of National City with with 38 passengers including children on board. According to early reports, the bus was heading downhill when it lost control and rolled over a truck which had one one occupant in it. A third car, a sedan, with three occupants was also involved in the crash. Multiple rescue agencies arrived to the scene of the bus accident and it took more than two hours to rescue victims. The tour bus accident involved a pickup truck pulling a trailer, and a sedan, but it is not known how they were involved.
So far, all 8 fatalities were passengers on the bus. There is also an estimate of 38 people injured. Some had been ejected due to the impact. Some of the passengers were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center and others were taken to other local hospitals. This road can be a very dangerous road to heavy vehicles. Drivers should remember to switch into lower gears when descending roads with large area of downhills so as to not wear out the brakes.
