COSTA MESA (November 12, 2013) – Bicyclist Michelle Lounsbury died on Monday from injuries she received a week ago when she was struck by a car in Costa Mesa. The accident happened on Tuesday, November 5th, just before 5:00 a.m. on Newport Boulevard. The driver was eastbound on Bay Street attempting to turn right onto Newport Boulevard when he struck Lounsbury. He stopped the car as soon as he realized he had struck Lounsbury. Michelle Lounsbury was trapped under his vehicle by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.
The driver has been identified as Shuja Haq. No arrests have been made however a police investigation is ongoing. Police are hoping local surveillance video from nearby buildings and witnesses might shed some light on the accident.
Lounsbury,44, a well known and well liked local homeless lady, was rushed to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana but died on Monday from serious brain trauma suffered during the collision with the car. She was known to ride her bike around town and often wore black clothing.
