Bicyclist Manuel Vera Ortega Killed in Chino Crash vs Car

CHINO (July 1, 2014) – A Tuesday afternoon crash has left elderly bicyclist Manuel Vera Ortega with fatal injuries.

Ortega was on his bicycle headed south on Central Avenue near Washington Avenue when he collided with a 2013 Chevy Silverado just minutes after 12:00 p.m.  He was rushed to Chino Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.  Ortega, 78 years old, was a resident of Chino.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Chino resident, William Parkison.  It is not known if he was cited but authorities questioned him at the scene.  An investigation is underway to determine what happened to cause this fatal accident.  Witnesses should immediately contact the Chino Police Department at 909-628-1234.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Manuel Vera Ortega as they mourn the tragic loss of their loved one.  If investigators find the driver to be at fault, Ortega’s living survivors including his spouse or children may have the right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver.
