RIVERSIDE (January 5, 2013) – Bicyclist David Mendez was fatally struck by a car on Sunday afternoon.  The accident happened at 3:47 p.m. on Central Avenue, west of Victoria Avenue.  Mendez was struck from the back, he was wearing a helmet at the time.  Paramedics rushed Mendez to Riverside Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The driver was at the scene and detained by officers.  It is not clear if he was arrested.  Alcohol may have played a role in this accident.  If that is the case, he can be found liable for the wrongful death of David Mendez.

  2. I'm sorry for your friends loss. I am also a coworker/ friend here at Kaiser in Fontana. He is a good guy, always happy and high spirits. I was surprised when he told me he rides his bike all the way from fontana to riverside. He has a passion for riding. I would like to attend his funeral services. An you possibly give me info on time and day?

  3. one of the best souls I have met in this life. It was truly an honor to have met David, a good hearted person that was always caring for everyone. I always wonder why the good one leave us so fast. I guess god had better plans for him. May he rest peace and god bless his family.

  5. I did not know David and I rarely read the newspaper but I happened upon the article about David and it hit home. In 2004 my brother John was killed while riding his bike in Riverside by an impaired driver. In doing a search on David I found his FB page and could immediately see that he loved bikes like my brother did. His likes were a lot like Johns also. Such a tragic loss. I hope that justice gets served, but from experience, it does not lessen the pain. Don't let the anger on what this person did consume you and just remember the good things about David. Especially that smile! Ray Littell
